Gaia in DragonVale: How to Get the Legendary Nest Dragon

The short answer: Gaia is not bred. At level 30 you unlock the Legendary Nursery, then summon Gaia by building three artifacts — the Scroll of Summoning, the Vials of Elemental Vitality and the Nest of Nurturing — from 30 fragments. Buying every fragment costs 3,450 gems.

About the Gaia

The game calls Gaia The First Dragon, sibling to Kairos, Bringer of Beginnings and Mother of Magic. Whatever her origins, her magic nurtures — which is why her power is about hatching. She arrived on 13 April 2016; Vital Essence, which levels her up, was added on 31 May 2019. In March 2022 she even got a birthday event, which introduced the Bellflower Dragon and the Hatchling of Magic.

How to unlock her

  1. Reach level 30 to access the Legendary Nursery.
  2. Collect 10 fragments for each of the three artifacts (30 in total). Fragments come from the Dragon Track, from sending dragons on quests, or can be bought with gems.
  3. Assemble the Scroll of Summoning, Vials of Elemental Vitality and Nest of Nurturing to upgrade the nursery and summon Gaia.

Step-by-step plan

  1. Reach level 30 and check the Legendary Nursery.
  2. Send dragons on quests regularly and work through the Dragon Track to collect fragments.
  3. Decide whether to buy the remaining fragments (all 30 cost 3,450 gems).
  4. Once summoned, use Activate every four days on your longest egg.
  5. Power her up with Vital Essence for permanently faster incubation.

Powering Gaia up with Vital Essence

You earn Vital Essence when eggs are hatched, sold or turned into egg pedestals; longer eggs give more. Eggs under one hour give nothing, so farming quick dragons does not work. Each power level cuts incubation at the Legendary Nursery:

Is Gaia worth it?

If you breed a lot of long-timer dragons — gemstones (30h+), Epics (24–60h) — an instant hatch every four days and up to 25% faster incubation add up fast. Combine her with an Upgraded Breeding Cave or Epic Breeding Sanctuary to cut waiting at both ends. If you mostly breed short hybrids, she matters less.

A simple Gaia routine

  1. Every four days, Activate Gaia on whichever egg has the most time left — usually a gemstone or Epic.
  2. Hatch, sell or pedestal long eggs rather than short ones when you have a choice; longer eggs give more Vital Essence.
  3. Spend Vital Essence as soon as you can raise Gaia’s power level — the incubation saving applies to every future egg.
  4. Pair her with a fast breeding setup (Upgraded Breeding Cave or Epic Breeding Sanctuary) so neither stage is a bottleneck.
